I appreciate all this review information. My mother and I just got signed up on American Senior Safety Agency’s program. Do you have any tips for getting the most out of a medical alert service once you are a custoemr? Thanks/.
Hi Laurie, Excellent question! Here are a few tips:
1. Remember to test your mom’s system once a month (this is what most companies suggest). This is the best way to make sure that it is always working. Mark this on your calendar so you don’t even have to remember!
2. Let your mom press the button and speak to the operator while testing. Involving her helps her become acquainted with the medical alert and how it works during an actual emergency.
3. Keep her medical alert information current. Having her current address, list of contacts, and home phone information is very important!
Wow. yes. I’m having an incredible time looking into these devices. it’s mind blowing! I researched these companies at my mother’s house two weeks ago and I called her home phone recently to find that it wasn’t ringing in. mom had unplugged her phone cause she felt she was getting so many calls from medical alert companies. argggghhhh! and I’ve been a little shocked by the level of dishonesty I’ve experienced These sales guys are try to scare you into their service. The only one I remember is that life alert specifically implied that all other services were substandard. “It’s your mother’s life…” WOW. The crazy thing is I’ve heard similar sentiments from other companies/ Some of these services might be good, but their sales method is a giant turnoff. I will never buy from a salesman like that
I’ve been looking around a lot for my parents. I work in sales, and i got surprised by how aggressive some medical alert companies are. I’ve asked some of these companies not to call, but I just keep getting sales calls! what is it with these companies!
Hi Larry, I was calling all of these companies while researching for the site and I definitely share your frustration. Some companies call without identifying themselves, and a lot of these aggressive sales practices can be confusing and unfair to seniors. I personally like and admire companies who let me call to follow up when I am ready.
