A medical alert with the speaker in the necklace

There are a few things you should know before ordering a medical alert with the speaker inside of the necklace. First off, because of that speaker the necklace will be water-resistant, not waterproof. This means you will have to take it off before entering the shower or tub. If you are looking for something that can be showered with, make sure that it is 100% waterproof! Waterproof pendants can even be submerged when you are taking a bath. Secondly, the medical alert necklaces that have a speaker in them do have batteries that will need to be changed regularly. I believe most of these systems function with two batteries, one in the charger (inside the medical alert main unit) while the other is in use. These batteries will have to be changed about once a month. It is fine to order a necklace with the speaker inside it as long as you are aware of these two drawbacks. For some senior’s situations, the pros of this type of device will outweigh the cons, but for others a standard medical alert system will work much better. With a standard medical alert necklace, not only will you be able to where the device in the shower, the battery is a long-term lithium battery. These last up to 5 years depending on use, and it allows seniors to not have to worry about changing any batteries! So decide what would be best for you or your loved one and choose accordingly!

I do not understand why others are not more interested in the speaker in the pendant/wristband medical alert systems. I live in a very rural area where it can take 45 minutes for emergency response to happen. When I had a speaker alert, it was great because I could tell them immediately of a false alarm or whether it was a break-in, a medical emergency or a fire. They could call my neighbors and tell them where I was and how I was. My call box has to be located so far from my bathroom and bedroom (where I usually fall) that my voice could never carry to the box especially if I was injured. Myself and my 90 year old mother need a speaker in the pendant for the medical alert to be of any value at all. Can you evaluate Life Guardian or suggest other speaker systems for me?

Hi Sandie,
Unfortunately, a lot of falls happen when seniors are in the shower or tub. So I always recommend getting a medical alert necklace that can be worn in the shower or tub. We will be expanding our reviews and comparisons to include a number of other companies soon! Maybe Life Guardian will be one of those…

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this type of system.
