Life Alert
Life Alert Review
Review: *Life Alert ® has a 3 year required contract that is very difficult to cancel. They also do not have a 30 day money back guarantee. They do guarantee their price during their 3 year contract. We don’t consider Life Alert a good company to go with due to their strong 3 year contract.
- Life Alert is a full service company that will send an installation/salesperson to your home.
- Life Alert tends to be a high pressure sales oriented organization that will continue to call you to get the sale even if you have not given them your phone number.
- They have a high quality medical alert system service and are probably the second largest medical alert company behind Lifeline.
- Their website is not very informative they want to get you on the phone.
- If you call them to get answers to questions make sure to call back several times. You will find you get different answers from each representative you speak to.
- If you do choose Life Alert your best price is their $29.95 which is their basic system.
Life Alert can be reached at 1-800-786-1455 or www.lifealert.com

I have had a couple conversations with Life Alert people and am really surprised. I mentioned a couple of other companies off of your website and they said one representative said he never heard of them. He says they must only have been around for a year or so – so don’t trust them. And then I am calling the other companies and they have been around for 10 plus yearas. I feel like life alert is playing hard ball just trying to get me to buy their service. Other companies have been more helpful and honest.
Now I am digging around on the internet and finding complaints on them. I am surprised that no one has mentioned these complaints on here. This is serious sort of stuff that everyone needs to read before even calling this company.
Hi Joseph,
Thanks for sharing your concerns. I personally have spoken to a number of Life Alert representatives too. Life Alert is a very sales oriented organization. Their salespeople do work on commission, and that sometimes leads to misdirection and (for lack of a better word) dishonesty. In my experience this varies based on the operator that you get. But I prefer more customer service oriented companies…
I think it’s important to look for reviews on any company you are thinking of signing up with. If you type something like “Life Alert Reviews” or “Connect America Complaints” into Google, you will get a lot of helpful results.
Thanks for sharing!
A representative from life alert told me the other day when i called that the reason they cost more and have a required time contract is that they are able to guarantee their service. No other companies have told me anything like this so i dont know what i should think. I have to say he went almost just as far to say that other companies don’t give reliable services. Is life alert actually more reliable?
Hi Lindsey, the larger medical alert companies (including the ones we have listed here and a number of others) provide good reliable monitoring. The salesperson that you spoke with was probably warning you about “Fly By Night Companies.” While it is very important to do your research and make sure you are choosing a good reliable service, this sounds more like an attempt to scare you into choosing Life Alert.
In my experience, the salespeople at Life Alert can really vary. I’ve talked to really aggressive, scare tactic using salesmen from there and I’ve talked to helpful salespeople. It really varies on the representative you get. I really can’t recommend choosing a company that requires any time commitment out of you though.
I hope this helps…
Our family has been searching for a medical alerr for my mother-in-law. One of the kids has been following up with Life Alert and really wants to sign up with them. I am reading online that they have a 3 year contract withy their service, but my sister-in-law says the rep told her that their is no contract. And they say that we can cancel whenever we need. I am really skeptical of a service with a contract and i guess we don’t know who to beleive. There are a lot of complaints online of life alerts service including some BBB resolved complaints.
Does anyone have experience with life alert? do they have a contract or not?
Hi Carl and Julie, Life Alert does have a three year time commitment. If a representative there tells you otherwise ask to see the contract that you would have to sign. I asked for a copy of it while doing research (for other reasons) and they sent it to me. This 3 year time commitment is in the contract. Life Alert allows you to cancel their time commitment only in certain circumstances, and they do require proof in order to do so…
when i talked with life alert they told me they have a 3 years contract but the person said i could cancel whenever i need. i’m wondering if i talked to with a different person from there if they’d tell me something completely different
my parents were planning on signing up with Lifeline but some Life alert persons called them over and over and my dad ended up giving his credit card to them. he didnt even know who’s service we signed up for we had to call around to see who he had purchased. we had to call the credit card and try to get the money back. luckily dad didntt sign anything. it was a big mess tho. Now were doing the whole search again, but i am being all hands on this time!! Not sure who we will go with but thanks for this info. its easier already this time
Thanks for sharing this Cindy. The sales calls in this industry are a big problem in my opinion. They’re both bothersome to seniors who just want to be left alone and sometimes deceptive.
I originally talked to a Life Alert representative in early October. I have gotten calls from them ever since. At first I thought I’d see how long it took for them to stop calling. But it’s been over three months and I am still getting A LOT of calls.
My mom has life alert. the service has been good but she didnt exaclty realize that she was ordering a contract service period. 3 years is a lot to my mom.
Shes tried to cancel since then and can’t cause she’s not moving to assisted living or in with a family member or she hasnt died. I don’t by alot of what i read on the internet about life alert but you definitely need to understand that you are signing up for years of service. i guess my main complaint is that they are not exactly the most senior citizen friendly help button provider.
